Donovan Richards proves to be a painful (and arrogant) winner

Boy, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards is a bad winner – especially for a guy whose “win” isn’t really in the bank just yet.

After the updated but not final primary results fell on Tuesday night, he shamefully criticized his opponent Elizabeth Crowley as a racist, Tweeter: “We beat your racist ass”, and later claims she told him “she would win, because BLM [Black Lives Matter] would die ”- which doesn’t even sound like him.

In response to a major backlash, Richards doubled down, insisting that Crowley used the “politics of fear” and “racist dog whistles” in his public safety messages – but he offered no example. concrete evidence of Crowley’s alleged racism.

What a contrast to Kathryn Garcia’s gracious acceptance of her very slim loss to Eric Adams in the mayoral race and the chic tweet from MP Jo Anne Simon after losing a tight contest for the president of the borough of Brooklyn to City Councilor Antonio Reynoso: “I look forward to working with you to recover and build a post-COVID Brooklyn for everyone. ”

By the way, Richards could still lose to Crowley; the race may even require a manual recount. Defeat would do him good: his arrogant rudeness is just another unnecessary blow to the civility our politics so desperately need.
