Coco gauff and Caty mcnally lost their women’s doubles third round match at Wimbledon on Tuesday, losing 7-6 (0), 4-6, 6-3 to Veronika kudermetova and Elena Vesnina.

Originally scheduled to be played on an outdoor court, the match took place on center court after being postponed on Monday and earlier on Tuesday due to rain. The players were well worth the wait for the participants, as the first set of the fierce battle lasted over an hour.

In the end, the Russian team of Kudermetova and Vesnina, three-time major champion and Olympic gold medalist in women’s doubles recently returned from childbirth, were too many for the duo of teenage American girls. Kudermetova and Vesnina got a 77% first serve winning percentage and recorded four aces that day.

It was Gauff and McNally’s first doubles appearance at Wimbledon. The pair have reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open twice and reached the third round of the French Open and US Open. They won three WTA titles together, most recently in Parma in May, and a junior doubles title at the 2018 US Open.

Gauff, 17, was eliminated in singles in the fourth round on Monday with a straight set loss to Angelique Kerber. McNally, 19, lost in the second round of qualifying.

Kudermetova and Vesnina will then play Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova, the reigning champions of Roland-Garros in doubles, in the quarter-finals.
