What would it take for you to buy a phone with a sub-screen camera?

Under-screen cameras could become a mainstay in future phone design as more OEMs embrace the technology. As ZTE leads the push with the Axon series, Samsung may soon follow suit. the Galaxy z fold 3 and Z Flip 3 would be Samsung’s first devices to sink the selfie camera. Xiaomi and Google have also filed patents for their own under-screen camera designs.

The advantages of under-screen cameras are clear. An uninterrupted display with minimal bezels is a design dream. An under-screen camera also eliminates the need to move camera parts, such as a pop-up or flip-up housing.

Despite these obvious advantages, the real issue with these sunken cameras is the image quality. Looking through the screen, these shooters cannot yet compete with traditional selfie shooters. For some, this could be the biggest problem. For others, it is probably a negligible factor.
