WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – A new campus-wide faculty innovation and entrepreneurship program will help connect Purdue University innovators with new avenues for entrepreneurship and commercialization.
To launch the program, the College of Agriculture appointed Christian Butzke, professor of food science and entrepreneur in the wine industry, as its first Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fellow.
“I couldn’t be more excited about this tremendous opportunity to share my passion for innovation and entrepreneurship with our wonderful faculty,” said Butzke. “I look forward to working with professors and students interested in commercialization to bring their innovations to the world. “
In this new role, Butzke mentor professors and students considering entrepreneurship. He will also support Karen Plaut, Dean of Agriculture Glenn W. Sample, to develop and implement entrepreneurship and marketing strategies for the College of Agriculture.
“Commercialization of Purdue’s discoveries is crucial in our efforts as a global leader in meeting challenges in food, life and natural resource sciences,” said Plaut.
Bernie Engel, Associate Dean and Director of Agricultural Research and Higher Education, said: “The College of Agriculture has made great strides in working with Dan Dawes and our ecosystem partners in creating startups based. on the findings of professors, students and staff. We look forward to building on this success with the addition of Christian in this role. “
Butzke co-founded VinSense, a company that supports wine grape farming using patented Purdue technology. Dawes is a consultant for the Purdue Foundry.
Wade Lange, vice president and director of entrepreneurship for the Purdue Research Foundation, said, “This is another strategic way to support Purdue’s mission to improve the world through technology and alumni. Dr. Butzke is a wonderful example of an academic entrepreneur who is innovative and passionate about helping others achieve their dreams. We anticipate that more colleges will participate in the program soon.
