President Biden has appointed Shalanda Young as director of the White House’s Office of Management and Budget, and Nani Coloretti as deputy director, the White House said.

Young is currently the Deputy Director of OMB. She has served as interim director for the past 8 months after Biden’s first choice for the post, Neera Tanden, stepped down because several senators said they would not support her appointment. Young, a former senior House Appropriations Committee official, would become the first black woman to serve as OMB director, if the Senate confirmed it.

Coloretti, a Filipino-American, is the senior vice president for financial and business strategy at the Urban Institute. She was assistant secretary in the Department of Housing and Urban Development during the Obama administration.

“Shalanda Young and Nani Coloretti are two of the most experienced and qualified people to lead the OMB. Each has already been confirmed by the US Senate with strong bipartisan support,” Biden said Wednesday. “I urge the Senate to reconfirm them quickly so that they can lead the OMB at this important time.”
