Sean Rotar elevated to ASLA Fellowship Council

LAFAYETTE OUEST, Ind. – Sean Rotation, program director and associate professor of landscape architecture, was one of 35 American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) selected for the 2021 promotion of Fellows. The ASLA Fellowship Council is elected for its outstanding contributions to the profession of landscape architect and to society at large. The election is one of the highest honors ASLA bestows on members.

“Sean is a tremendous asset to our students and our department,” said Linda Prokopy, Department Head and Professor of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture. “This recognition from ASLA highlights what we already knew: Sean is among the best of the best landscape architects. His knowledge and skills have helped build the careers of hundreds of our alumni. Her active mentorship and thoughtful leadership of our Landscape Architecture program is second to none and we are fortunate to have her here at Purdue.

Rotar was selected for the Council of Fellows in the service category. He has served ASLA at the Indiana and Illinois chapter level. He spent nine years serving four national ASLA committees, including three years as chair of two committees. Rotar is a director of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Samara and has been involved in the preservation of the historic landscape for Monuments of Indiana.

Rotar’s service to the local community includes leading Scouts, teaching landscape architecture workshops, and making extra efforts to introduce children to nature and landscape architecture as a profession.

“The goal of landscape architecture is to help people live better lives,” Rotar said. “We are physically improving the places where people live, work and play so they can live happier, healthier and more fulfilling lives. ”

Founded in 1899, the American Society of Landscape Architects had appointed 1,270 fellows before the 2021 class. Rotar and two other Hoosiers were invested at the 2021 Landscape Architecture Conference on Sunday, November 21.
