Purdue Agricultural Economics Advisors Receive National Awards

LAFAYETTE OUEST, Ind. – Andrew “Andy” Oppy and Jodie “Jo” Thomas, advisors at Purdue University Department of Agricultural Economics, were selected by NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Counseling receive prestigious annual awards.

Oppy was selected for the NACADA Outstanding Advisory Award – Lead Advisory Role. Thomas was chosen to receive the NACADA Outstanding New Advisor Award – Lead Advisor role. The advisers will be honored at the NACADA 2021 awards ceremony in October.

“The work Andy and Jo do for our students is exceptional, and these awards are well deserved,” said Karen Plaut, Glenn W. Sample Dean of Agriculture at Purdue. “It’s a big honor for both of them, as well as for farm economics and the college.”

“Our advisors are the ‘face of the department’, and we are extremely fortunate that Andy and Jo are making a positive impact on the lives of agricultural economics students,” said Jayson Lusk, Distinguished Professor and Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics. .

In February, Oppy and Thomas received the Purdue Academic Advising Association (PACADA) awards for Outstanding Advisor and Outstanding New Professional, respectively. In the 20 years that both awards have been presented to Purdue, 2021 was the first time the two went to counselors from the same college. The honors led to the nominations of Opy and Thomas for the NACADA Advising Awards.
