Police defect as new civil war looms in Myanmar

[ad_1]

As Myanmar heads into yet another civil war, the police are under intense pressure to decide which side to side with.

Since the February 1 military coup, the police have been used to brutally suppress mass protests.

Some protesters took up arms to retaliate, forming civilian militias known as the People’s Defense Forces.

The BBC had rare access to the first group of police officers who defected and joined the people’s camp.

Some of these officers now say they are ready to use their weapons against their former colleagues.
