Overtime Elite has unveiled its full game schedule and three rosters for its inaugural season, which begins on October 29.
As part of the program, the 16-20-year-old OTE collection, including several four- and five-star rookies and top international prospects, will be split into three teams and face pre-season and postgraduate opponents, including the Sunrise Christian Academy (post-grad), Dream City Christian (post-grad), Hillcrest Prep, Putnam Science Academy, the Vertical Academy program with five stars Mikey williams, and others. Most games will be played at Overtime’s new facility in Atlanta, the OTE Center of Excellence, but will also include travel to events in North Carolina, Arizona, Ohio and Florida.
OTE will face Dr. Phillips (Florida), Vertical Academy (North Carolina) and the KT Kings from Calvary Christian (Florida) in the GA Prep Series on October 29. Matches can be replayed via the Overtime YouTube channel. , OTE officials told ESPN.
In addition to competing against other institutions, the three Overtime Elite teams will face off in the OTE League Series, with wins counting towards the league standings and possibly leading to the OTE playoffs in late March. OTE League Series wins will count as two points for the standings, while wins against pre / post-graduation teams will count as one point. Teams can also be awarded points for winning “Takeovers,” a series of team challenges that include individual competitions, dunk contests, and 3-point shootouts.
Restrictions imposed by state high school federations and entities such as Geico Nationals and the NIBC prevent most high school teams from scheduling OTE, which includes professional status players, many of whom have already graduated from the OTE. ‘secondary studies. OTE League Series games are expected to be the most competitive and useful actions for NBA rating purposes. OTE officials told ESPN this season’s setup is their intended business model, but said they plan to grow with several other OTE teams in the coming years.
“The most exciting part of our schedule is going to be playing against each other, getting under the lights of our building,” Brandon Williams, basketball operations manager for Overtime Elite, told ESPN. “We’re not tied to specific teams right now. The reality is that there just aren’t many teams that will look like us. That’s the real challenge of programming.”
OTE has invited NBA teams to attend a Pro Day on October 23 in Atlanta, but sources told ESPN the event has yet to be certified due to a rule interpretation of no. -NBA contact prohibiting teams from contacting draft-ineligible players, outside of a handful of approved settings that include official games, select college practices, and international practices involving only international players.
The league is still figuring out how to rank the OTE, according to sources, which includes a combination of US and international prospects who are both draft-eligible in 2022 and two or three years after that. The league is expected to provide clarification to NBA teams over the next week with guidelines for evaluating OTE players.
“The NBA wants to know what they’re saying yes to and make sure all 30 teams have the same level of access and information,” Williams said. “I didn’t get the impression that they don’t want or won’t allow the scouts to enter.”
RJ Hampton and LaMelo ball were the same caught in a gray area two years ago when the two chose to play abroad, but the situation was finally resolved. The NBA has certified scouts to attend G League Ignite practices, which also feature a mix of draft-eligible and non-draft-eligible prospects, starting tomorrow.
“We would like [schedule] the G League Ignite and the NBA Academies, ”Williams told ESPN. “We are working to schedule international games in the spring after the end of our season, to create a high experience for our guys. … Once the high school seasons are over, there will be opportunities to do more in terms of club and travel basketball seasons. “
High school graduates Dominique barlow, Jai smith, Kok Yat |, Emmanuel Maldonado and Davion Mace also meet the high school age and class requirements to be draft eligible, and are expected to be available for selection next June. Non-international players who have signed a contract with a professional non-NBA team are eligible to be recruited, in accordance with the NBA collective agreement.
OTE teams will be coached on the pitch by Dave Leitao, former head coach of DePaul and Virginia; Ryan gomes, an 8-year former NBA veteran as a G League player and assistant; and Tim Fanning, previously assistant coach of Euroleague Maccabi Tel Aviv. All three teams will be overseen by Head Coach and Director of Player Development Kevin Ollie, an NBA journeyman as a player who won a national championship as UConn’s head coach.
