OnePlus 9 Pro Matte white color finish teased by COO Liu Fengshuo

OnePlus 9 Pro may get a new color finish soon. Company COO Liu Fengshuo shared an image of the OnePlus 9 Pro wearing a white finish, hinting at a new color option. The phone launched in March this year, alongside the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9R. It was then available in Morning Mist, Pine Green and Stellar Black shades. The new image released by Fengshuo suggests that an additional color option may be in sight.

Fengshuo took to Weibo to share the new color finish of the OnePlus 9 Pro, asking for the opinion of fans. The OnePlus 9 Pro in the photo had a full white finish with a matte texture to prevent fingerprints and provide a better grip. The executive asked fans for their comments on the new color option. This does not guarantee a launch in the future, and Oneplus can just delete it based on comments or if there are other issues. Fengshuo also did not come up with a launch schedule. It is also possible that the variant will only launch in China, with OnePlus having already made several limited edition models specific to certain countries.

Recent reports suggest there may not be a OnePlus 9T model launch this year, and a new color option may be a new strategy from OnePlus to shake things up a bit as the OnePlus 9 lineup hits its cycle half-yearly life. Since the launch of the OnePlus 3T in November 2016, OnePlus continued the trend of upgrading its flagship models with a “T” variant in the second half of the year. However, that might not happen at all this year. It’s unclear exactly why OnePlus may not have the OnePlus 9T in the roadmap. Some speculations revolve around the global chip shortage who started impact on phone manufacturing.

If the new OnePlus 9 Pro white color option is announced as compensation, it will likely be offered at the same price as the other three current options. There is little clarity on what it can be officially called, but some rumors gravitate towards “Pure White”.
