Two NYPD officers were injured in Queens on Saturday when a restless man they were trying to help ripped off in his vehicle, taking them both with him, then hit a police car with two other cops in the interior, police said.
Cops responded to an address on 71st Avenue near Parsons Boulevard in Kew Gardens Hills after a woman called 911 and said her fiance was suicidal, according to the NYPD.
Officers arrived around 6:30 p.m. to find the emotionally disturbed man sitting in his car outside his home, police said.
When two of the cops attempted to get him out of the vehicle, Webster Joseph, 28, allegedly hit the gas and dragged the cops, before crashing into a police car parked with two other officers inside, reportedly hit the gas and dragged the cops away, before crashing into a parked police car with two other officers inside. officials said.
Joseph then allegedly fled the scene of the crash and was arrested shortly thereafter on 110th Street and 67th Avenue in Forrest Hills, police said.
He was subjected to a psychiatric assessment and charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting his arrest, leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and reckless endangerment, cops said.
The injured officers were taken to North Shore Hospital for treatment and are expected to recover. It does not appear that the cops sitting in the police car were injured, although police said the vehicle was damaged in the crash.
The disturbed man had taken undisclosed pills, sources told the Post.
