“He takes the conference middle for granted,” the GOP lawmaker told CNN, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss the internal dynamics of the conference. “McCarthy might have a bigger math problem with moderates.”
Specifically, the lawmaker said a number of moderates were unhappy with the way McCarthy of Calif. Embraced some of the extremists at the GOP conference and warned it could hurt the party in swing districts and jeopardize their chances of winning back the majority.
Boebert “has contacted MP Omar for a meeting next week,” McCarthy said in a statement. “I spoke with Chief Hoyer today to help facilitate this meeting so that Congress can start talking to each other again and working on the challenges facing the American people.”
CNN contacted McCarthy’s office several times on Friday for comment on Boebert, but they didn’t provide a statement to CNN until Saturday.
Moderate GOP lawmaker warned both wings of the party were heading for a “collision course” and predicted other moderate lawmakers would start speaking out publicly if McCarthy did not do more to curb fringe party members .
“Our team won’t take much longer,” the lawmaker said.
