Microsoft has updated its minimum system requirements for Windows 11 to include more Intel processors. In an official blog post, he announced that after testing Windows Insider and exploring options with OEMs, the minimum system requirements now include other older Intel processors that will be compatible with Windows 11, although the other preconditions remain in place. Microsoft announced Windows 11 in June and is currently testing the latest operating system in beta. It brings a visual overhaul to the Windows platform as well as several more profound changes.
At the time of his unveiling, Microsoft announced that there were some key minimum requirements for execution Windows 11. These include a 64-bit processor compatible, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage, UEFI Secure Boot, some graphics requirements and TPM 2.0. This caused quite a stir as processors prior to the end of 2017 were not supported; and to run Windows 11, users would have to upgrade their still fairly capable processors. Now, although the company meets the aforementioned requirements, it has added a few more Intelligence CPU to its compatibility list after testing with Windows Insiders and OEM.
New additions to the list of compatible processors include the Intel Core X and Xeon W series. Intel Core 7820HQ processors are also new to the list, but only selected devices that run this processor and come with modern drivers based on the principles of Declarative, component hardware support applications (DCH) design, such as Surface Studio 2 are compatible.
As for AMD CPU, there are no new additions. Microsoft says it has carefully analyzed AMD Zen processors in partnership with AMD.
Additionally, there is still no information on Windows 11 support for MacBooks through Boot Camp. It looks like MacBook users won’t be able to install Windows 11 at least officially due to the TPM 2.0 requirement. 9to5mac States this Apple has never offered support for TPM 2.0 on its Intel Macs, making them all incompatible with the latest version of Windows.
