Manchester United striker Anthony Elanga claimed to have been the victim of racist abuse by an opponent during a qualifying match for the European Under-21 Championship between Sweden versus Italy.

The teenager said he was the subject of a racist comment during Tuesday’s game at Monza, the Swedish football association confirmed on Wednesday.

“We gave our version of what happened and submitted an oral report to the referees and match delegates,” said Sweden U21 coach Claes Eriksson.

“Now we are waiting for feedback via the match report and the referee’s report. Once they arrive, we decide how to proceed.”

Sweden equalized in stoppage time in the second half to secure a 1-1 draw.

“No one should have to be exposed to racism, this is totally unacceptable,” said Eriksson. “We all support and support Anthony in this.”

Elanga broke into United’s first team last season and scored his first goal for the club in the victory at wolves the last day of the premier league campaign.

The 19-year-old only appeared this season in the 1-0 loss to West Ham United in the Carabao Cup last month.
