Ohio state got a late addition to his 2021 recruiting class on Sunday when the five-star defensive lineman JT Tuimoloau committed to the Buckeyes.

Tuimoloau is the No. 4 rookie in the general classification of the 2021 promotion and did not sign his national letter of intent or announce a commitment in February on the day of the signing. He has held on until now, visiting Washington, USC, State of Ohio and Oregon.

He had Alabama on her first list with the others, but dropped out of the Crimson Tide over the past month to focus on the remaining four schools.

He’s a 6-foot-5, 280-pound defensive tackle from Eastside Catholic High School in Bellevue, Wash., And he’s the No. 1 defensive tackle in the class. Tuimoloau had kept his recruiting close to the vest, so it wasn’t clear if he would engage or when he would engage throughout his process.

It seemed that at one point Alabama had a good chance of landing it and then Ohio State, but Oregon continued to make its presence known as well, until the Buckeyes ultimately prevail.

Adding Tuimoloau to the class gives coach Ryan Day three five-star prospects with a defensive end Jack sawyer, the No. 1 prospect in the general classification, and the ball carrier TreVeyon Henderson, ranked No. 9. The staff now has 18 ESPN 300 engagements in the class, including 15 in the top 150.

This is the 10th class in a row that Ohio State has had at least one five-star engagement, going back to the 2012 class. It’s the second class in a row with multiple five-stars entered as staff signed a five-star receiver. Julien fleming and offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr. in 2020.

Coaches on track to push that five-star streak even further as quarterback Quinn Ewers, the rookie n ° 1 in the general classification, is already engaged in the 2022 promotion.
