Improve your app mileage with Android for Cars app library

Posted by Madan Ankapura, Product Manager

In April, we announced our first version of the Android for Cars application library as part of Jetpack, take an important step towards allowing developers to publish their navigation, parking and charging apps on the Google Play Store.

Today we announce that version 1.1 is in alpha, which brings the following features to developers:

  • Connection model – Allows users to log into your app directly from the car screen when parked.
  • Long message template – Allows you to display long messages such as terms of use to users as part of the setup flow when they are parked.
  • Text of multiple lengths – Different car screen size can display different amount of text. We’ve added an API that you can use to specify multiple variations of a text string in some templates to fit different screen sizes.
  • Card interactivity – You can now add features like zoom and pan to your navigation model.
