In Windows 11, the Widgets drawer is huge. But what if you don’t want widgets? You might not be able to ban it completely, but you can get rid of the Widgets button from your taskbar with a few simple steps.
In fact, if you don’t use the search icon or even the task view, you can remove these icons from your taskbar as well. Here’s how.
Widgets is the Windows 11 reboot of News & Interests, the Windows 10 feature that preselects news, weather, sports scores, and stock prices and collects them into a small widget that sits at the bottom of your screen. (On Windows 10, News & Interests shows temperature and weather in your taskbar, while in Windows 11 it doesn’t.)
In Windows 11, however, upon clicking the Widgets button, a huge Widgets drawer opens on the left side of your screen, with a search window for the latest version. There’s the weather, local traffic, your Microsoft to-do lists, your photos from OneDrive, sports and esports, your watchlist, and tips. To some, it will seem overwhelming and obnoxious.
Fortunately, there are two easy ways to get rid of the Widgets button.
How to get rid of widgets in Windows 11
The first method is extremely simple: right click on the Widgets button on your taskbar, then click on Detach from taskbar. Pouf! Let’s go.
The second way is to right click on the taskbar itself and select Taskbar settings. You will then be redirected to the Windows 11 Settings menu (Settings> Personalization> Taskbar) where you will see three toggles: one for search, one for Task view, and another for widgets. You can turn off some or all of them, and these buttons will disappear from your taskbar as well.
