Fauci says he won’t do antibody test

July 1, 2021 – U.S. COVID-19 doctor Anthony Fauci, MD says he won’t bother to take a antibody test to find out if he needs a coronavirus vaccine wakeup call.

“If I went to LabCorp or one of those places and said, ‘I would like to get the level of anti-peak antibody, “I could tell what my level is, if I wanted to,” he told Insider. “I did not do it.”

According to Insider, Fauci said he would instead wait for two big signals: rising rates of rupturing infections in people who participated in the vaccine. clinical tests in early 2020 and laboratory data showing how vaccine protection may decline.

Fauci, the White House’s chief medical adviser and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, was publicly vaccinated with the Moderna vaccine, getting his first injection on December 22.

He said he thought the vaccine protection will wear off over time and it will eventually need a booster.

“You don’t want to assume that you’re going to have indefinite durability of protection,” he told Insider.

Experts have said that antibody tests are not a good way to measure this protection. They are designed to determine if someone has had the virus before. Insider pointed out that some antibody tests do not target the same protein as the vaccine.

The FDA agrees that people shouldn’t rely on antibody tests to find out how their vaccine holds up. On May 19, he released a statement saying that “antibody tests should not be used at this time to determine immunity or protection against COVID-19 at all times, and especially after a person has been vaccinated against COVID-19. “

As more and more people are vaccinated, they are also wondering if they will need boosters.

But no one knows for sure how long vaccine protection lasts.

In April, Moderna and Pfizer declared their vaccines offer more than 90% efficiency after 6 months. A recently published study indicates that these vaccines can provide low level protection for up to a year.
