The England Football Association has confirmed that a number of fans have attempted to storm Wembley Stadium in preparation for Sunday Euro 2020 final between Italy and England.

Videos circulated on social media of fan groups appearing to cross the outer perimeter barriers around Wembley around two hours before kick-off.

A video showed a group running towards the main reception, but the FA insisted that no supporters entered the arena without the proper documentation.

A spokesperson for Wembley told ESPN: “We are dealing with an incident which took place in the outside security perimeter of the stadium, with the support of the police. Security measures were quickly activated in the areas involved and there has been no violation of the safety of people without getting tickets inside the stadium. “

Thousands of fans gathered on Wembley Way at least eight hours before the start of 8 p.m. BST (3 p.m. ET) in scenes reproduced across London.

Queues formed outside pubs as early as 6 a.m. BST (1 a.m. ET), while many tourist areas of the city, including Leicester Square, were packed with supporters all day.

Wembley will host a maximum of 65,000 people for Sunday’s final with a TV audience in England expected to exceed 30 million, more than half of the country’s population.
