Russia’s Federal Anti-Monopoly Service (FAS) fined 1.3 billion rubles ($ 17.52 million) on hotel booking site Booking.com for violating the anti-monopoly law, the regulator said Thursday.
The fine of SAF comes nine months after accusing the company of violating Russian competition law, claiming that Booking.com “has abused its dominant position in the market.”
According to Russian anti-monopoly law, a company could be fined from 1% to 15% of its annual turnover generated in Russia.
Booking.com on Thursday announced its intention to appeal the FAS decision, TASS news agency reported. ($ 1 = 74.1934 rubles) (Report by Andrey Ostroukh, editing by Kirsten Donovan)
