Officials were working Wednesday night to put out a fire at a homeless camp near the Federal Courthouse in downtown Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a trash fire at 5:15 p.m. in the 300 block of North Main Street, according to spokesperson Nicholas Prange.
Prange said no injuries were reported. He could not immediately provide information on how many tents had caught fire or the cause. No arson investigator was assigned to the incident.
There are several dozen tents within an approximately three-block radius of the incident. Homeless fires in Los Angeles have become more common in recent years. In the first quarter of 2021, they occurred at the rate of 24 per day, representing 54% of all fires in which the department intervened.
