Amidst the glam and bustling scene of last summer’s Paris fashion week, Audemars Piguet has released a chic new series of Royal Oaks ready to strut on a high fashion catwalk. British fashion photographer Harley Weir captured the mood, exploring how a watch, like an outfit, makes a statement about your personal sense of style.
Weir reflected on the many different facets of modern women and how the new watches express them with different colors, materials, and character – from sleek black ceramics to the shimmering sheen of frosted gold and a
tasty rainbow of multicolored gems.
As versatile and timeless as a little black dress, the 34mm Ceramic Royal Oak Selfwinding ($ 46,200) catches a little punk rock attitude in all black with rose gold accents – the hallmark of Royal Oak Eight. Hexagonal screws, hour markers, hands and oscillating weight of the automatic 5800 caliber visible through the sapphire crystal caseback. Resistant and scratch resistant, the ink ceramic is light and silky smooth with its satin finish.
Embodying freshness, the Royal Oak Frosted Gold Selfwinding has also been reduced to 34mm in 18k white gold ($ 54,100) and embellished with the brand’s exclusive shimmering finish.
Italian jewelry designer Carolina Bucci developed the Frosted Gold technique which is based on an ancient practice of making tiny imprints in the smooth surface of gold to create a diamond dust effect. Associated with an icy blue dial, it makes us shiver.
Purple reigns supreme on a larger self-winding 38mm chronograph ($ 83,700) in 18k rose gold set with 32 perfectly matched baguette-cut amethysts, weighing nearly three carats. Royal stones frame a color-changing “Grande Tapisserie” dial that emits a range of purple hues when it catches the light.
And new for the fall season, the rainbow dots the five new openwork models with Royal Oak Frosted Gold double balance (price on request): three 41 mm digits in white, pink and yellow gold, and – for those who prefer a slightly thinner look – two 37mm yellow gold and rose gold.
In both sizes, the technically complex openwork movement rivals attention with a rainbow-hued bezel. It is set with 32 baguette-cut gemstones in shaded undertones – ruby, tsavorite, emerald, topaz, tanzanite, amethyst and a variety of colored sapphires – progressing across the color spectrum.
