Any clues as to the original launch date?

TL; DR

  • The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE made an appearance on the Bluetooth SIG site.
  • The device appears alongside Samsung’s new foldables.
  • Does this suggest that the original plan was to launch the S21 FE at Unpacked?

We have known for some time that Samsung is working on the Galaxy S21 FE, coming as a sequel to the beloved Galaxy S20 FE flagship. Now, Samsung’s next smartphone has appeared online through the Bluetooth SIG website.

The Galaxy S21 FE appeared on the Bluetooth SIG site in two separate deposits, both deposits specifically mentioning the name S21 FE and the model number SM-G990. The documents also mention support for Bluetooth 5.0. This doesn’t appear to be a mistake, as the latest Samsung foldables are indeed listed with their correct Bluetooth versions.

Otherwise, one of the repositories also seems to confirm a dual SIM variant, due to the model number “SM-G990B_DS”. Samsung typically uses the suffix “DS” to denote dual-SIM variants.

There’s not much else to pull off the lists, but one particularly interesting piece of information is that the S21 FE filing was made at the same time as the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, and Galaxy Watch 4 series. Perhaps this suggests that the original plan may have been to launch the Galaxy S21 FE at the Unpacked event on August 11 alongside the foldables.

It is possible that the timing of the FE filing has little to do with its launch date, original or not. But it’s common to see devices appearing together on Bluetooth SIG if they’re launched at the same event (e.g. S21 series, Poco F3 Pro, and X3 Pro).

Reports from Korea claim the next phone has been actually delayed by Samsung for marketing or production reasons. But the accidental onset of the phone on Samsung’s official Instagram account may be suggesting that its release may not be far away now.
